Paddle Across the Solent

Join us for a group adventure paddling across the Solent, fish and chips in Ryde on the Isle of Wight and then a return paddle back to base in Stokes Bay, Gosport.

The Solent is a strip of water between the Isle of Wight and the mainland. It is a hive of boating activity with major shipping routes for passengers, freight, and an array of naval vessels. It is also an extremely popular recreational area which is famous for large sailing events such as Cowes Week and Round the Island Race.

We will meet at Stokes Bay and paddle across to Ryde Harbour landing to the East of Ryde Pier. Once we arrive at Ryde, we will bring you your fish and chips to enjoy while having a short break to admire the view before paddling back to Stokes Bay.

Please note that due to Government restrictions, our events are on hold at the moment. However, contact us to register your interest. We are still operating our beach hire activities.

Your safety is always paramount

As with all our event and hire activities, we take safety very seriously. We run a tight ship and our team are there to support you from the minute you arrive.

We will always give you a safety briefing before you head out on the water and make sure your buoyancy aids are correctly fitted to keep you safe and sound. We are absolutely committed to you having a great time on the water, every time.

Take a look at our FAQs below or feel free to get in touch.
The distance is approximately 2.5 miles each way and the Solent is notorious for strong tides. Paddling at a constant, but leisurely, pace takes about 1.5 hours each way. You need to be a confident paddler to manage this event. If you are unsure, build up to it with a few kayak sessions with us at Stokes Bay.
The event will start and finish at our base in Lifeboat Lane, Gosport PO12 2TR.
The cost is £45 per person including fish and chips and a soft drink.
We provide kayaks, paddles, buoyancy aids, dry bags, and spray tops. All you need to bring is a full change of clothes, a pair of shoes, sun cream and a towel. You may also want to bring a hot flask so that you can have a warm drink.
Yes, absolutely. The Solent can be busy with various boating activities and is notorious for strong and complex tides. With these factors in mind, we run all our events accompanied by a small support boat with a skipper and crew, at least one of whom is first aid trained.
Unfortunately not. Our kayaks are bright yellow touring kayaks and so highly visible making them ideal for this type of adventure. Also, our kayaks are set up to be recovered easily if needed. For these reasons we only permit people to participate with our kayaks. However, if you wish to use your own paddle, you can do so.
No, unfortunately due to strict cross Solent rules and regulations, this is not permitted.
